Treating or Preventing Your Next Migraine | Natural Holistic Health ...

Migraines belong to the neurological disease group because the pain of a migraine involves the expansion of blood vessels inside your head. The headache associated with a migraine is often times so severe as to be disabling. The pain can be on one side of the head or both. The pain can be moderate or severe in nature and usually is classified as either throbbing or pulsating.

Two preferred types of classifications of headaches are common and classic. Nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light and sound are the symptoms that can accompany a migraine. If you suffer from migraines, you are not alone. Approximately 28 million Americans also suffer the same fate.

Women tend to have migraines more often then men and those with a family history of migraines are more likely to experience them. Individuals taking hormone therapy or who use birth control pills are also more likely to experience migraines.

Preventing:

Preventing migraines demands that you have a strategy to combat the occurrence of migraines. The strategy had been including knowing and understanding the things that trigger your specific migraines. Migraines can be different in the way that they feel and in the symptoms that are associated with them. No two individuals who suffer from migraines are going to have exactly the same experiences with migraines.

This makes preventing them a challenge. You really need to know what it is that triggers the onset of a migraine. Triggers can be environmental in nature such as a change in the weather, sunlight, tobacco smoke, scents or odors such as perfumes, getting too much sleep or not enough, and physical and or emotional stress.

Prevention can also include taking medications that can reduce your chance of having the physical symptoms that lead to a migraine. Medications used to prevent migraines include antihistamines, antidepressants, calcium channel blockers, and dietary supplements.

Treating:

The treatment you and your doctor decide upon may be a combination of traditional methods such as medications, stress therapy, physical therapy to learn how to relax muscles to alternative methods such as aromatherapy and chiropractic manipulations. There are medications that are used for acute headaches or the discomforts of symptoms to medications relax the body or mind. Some OTC medications used to prescribe are acetaminophen, aspirin, and NSAIDS, paracetamol and also Tramadol.

Pain relievers are not the only drugs that may be an apart of the treatment plan. Your doctor may prescribe calcium channel blockers, antidepressants, serotonin receptors and also antiseizsure drugs.

It is really important that you and your doctor have an excellent means of communicating so that you are able to manage your migraines and have a relatively pain-free life. It is important that you report all side affects. Give as much feedback as possible so that your doctor can better assist you along your path to manage your migraines.
